What makes Private swim lessons more beneficial than a standard group lesson?

Youth Aquatics instruction methodology centers around the 1-1 environment of learning how to swim. The competition only with oneself in the world of water leads naturally toward skill improvement as well as establishing positive self-confidence and self-esteem. Youth Aquatics recognizes there is more to achieve from learning to swim than just learning to swim.

We put together some helpful information to consider when choosing private lessons:
Private lessons place your child at the center. Our 1-1 approach gives instructors the ability to focus on the needs of each individual swimmer. This allows us to curate a swim plan that will help each swimmer pursue their own personal goals and objectives. Group swim instruction tends to focus heavily on safety in order to make the lesson environment safe, which keeps children on the wall or in floatation devices for much longer. Without individual attention, a child isn not pushed to their own personalized limits and the lesson environment cannot cater to what’s possible for the swimmer as early as they should.
  • Children who are nervous about swimming will almost always respond better to 1-1 conditions. Private lessons provide a safe environment, where the pace of the lesson is set by how comfortable the swimmer is feeling in the water. The 1-1 space never forces a swimmer into any skill they are not emotionally ready for, therefore, paving way for positive attitudes furthering their progression.

  • An important part of any swim lesson is the feedback. When the environment is more personalized, so is the feedback. During a 1-1 lesson, each child will be able to receive more individualized reports on their growth and improvements during the course of their lessons. This operates doubly for our instructors, who are able to provide more insightful feedback for their swimmers through student reporting.

  • Whatever the subject of learning, personal attendance by experienced and qualified instructors has much better results than the usual impersonal teaching approach that is associated with group classes. The personal approach of private lessons leaves a child feeling acknowledged, heard, and confident.

  • While group classes stress a better price point, they do not always deliver in quality of service or individual need. In a group setting, a child may be attending class for 30 minutes but only receiving around 5-7 minutes of personalized instruction. While this is acceptable for skilled swimmers who wish to continue to flourish in their swimming, it is not an ideal environment for a child learning a new skill. A private lesson is a full lesson completely centered around the needs and goals of your child. When it comes to learning a necessary life-saving skill that leads to positive self-esteem, we believe quality is the only way to achieve it.

Private swim lessons can help a child tremendously in many areas of their life. When managed well in the right environment, swim lessons help a child develop their swim skills while also aiding them in their emotional development. It is an investment, the best kind of investment a parent can make on their children’s wellbeing and confidence in water, and throughout life.
